About the Role:

The Aquatics Volunteer at YMCA of Northern Alberta creates a safe and positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals while working on strategies to improve the members experience, affecting an increase in retention, program quality and overall member satisfaction in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures. In this role you will act as an assistant swim instructor, helping deliver safe and fun programs to members of all ages in swimming lessons.

Responsibilities:

  • Is an active in-water assistant swim instructor – Role models and consistently applies safety rules, policies, guidelines, in the aquatics area.
  • Develops and maintains positive relationships with volunteers, members, program participants, and colleagues at all levels of the organization.
  • Conveys information on aquatics programs and schedules and as appropriate refers program participants and families to other programs.
  • Assists in maintaining records as required (e.g., attendance, progress reports).
  • Receives regular feedback during swimming lessons gracefully and applies feedback immediately to help improve program quality in swimming lessons. Feedback provided by but is not limited to in-water coaching, audits and team huddles.
  • Complies with all emergency procedures, pool standards and best practices; responds to situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies, procedures; completes related reports or recommendations as required.
  • Ensures YMCA Aquatics standards are consistently met or exceeded and supports the Team Lead/Aquatics Operations Coordinator in responding to service issues with possible solutions in a timely manner.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 16 years of age
  • Aquatics Certifications: Intermediate First Aid & CPR-C, Bronze Cross, YMCA Swim Instructor (YSI) and/or Lifesaving Instructor (LSI) considered an asset
  • Able to obtain a Police Information Check with Vulnerable sector check
