<p><b>Job Description</b></p>
<p><b>POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY :</b></p>
<p>The role ensures consistent profitability of the store by implementing national and regional standards in sales, customer service, merchandising, marketing, public relations, staff training, reclamation and product donation flow, transportation, and processing of in-store donations.</p>
<p><b>Accountabilities</b></p>
<p>The incumbent may perform all, some, or similar range of duties.</p>
<ul>
<li>Direct all operations of store to meet sales targets and control expenses while maintaining customer service standards</li>
<li>Hire, orientate, train, evaluate, recognize, discipline, and terminate based on Territorial / National standards</li>
<li>Manage health and safety, labour & employee relations, and other related issues at a store level</li>
<li>Decide on in-store promotions and auctions and keep abreast of marketing trends by checking competitors’ stock</li>
<li>Plan store layout to attract customers including window displays and merchandise displays</li>
<li>Determine and maintain appropriate inventory levels based on spot checks and reviews of weekly sales records</li>
<li>Maintain control of inventory by ensuring store donations are retrieved, sorted, and priced appropriately</li>
<li>Ensure in-store safety for staff and customers (e.g., snow removal, clear fire exits, no obstacles inside / outside store, cleans spillage and maintains store cleanliness)</li>
<li>Prepare financial and other requested reports to the National and Regional offices (sales reports, staffing costs, payroll data, etc.)</li>
<li>Work with Salvation Army agencies to deliver emergency and disaster services as assigned by District Manager</li>
<li>Responsible to plan, organize, direct, and control all store operations</li>
<li>Help store associates make connections with the customers and demonstrate a value driven workforce</li>

<p><b>Critical Relationship Management</b></p>
<p><u>Internal :</u> Retail District Managers, other Retail Store Managers and store team</p>
<p><u>External :</u> Guests, donors, vendors, community store partners</p>
<p><b>Managerial / Technical Responsibilities</b></p>
<p>Reports directly to the District Manager.</p>
<p><u>Direct reports :</u> Supervises a team of Sales Associates of different level: responsible for hiring, terminating or making disciplinary decisions, directly supervise 10 or more full-time, part-time, and / or volunteers, provide direction concerning current tasks or consult in assignments</p>
<p><b>Financial And Material Management</b></p>
<ul>
<li>Establish and manage in-store budget within guidelines</li>
<li>Execute budgetary objectives by attaining sales margins</li>
<li>Maintain staff cost ratios, and profit objectives as established by the region</li>
<li>Ensure nightly sales are deposited into the appropriate financial institution</li>
<li>Analyze store financial statements and strategize appropriate action to attain financial goals and monitor the cost of goods</li>
</ul>

<p><b>Working Conditions</b></p>
<p>This is a permanent full time position</p>
<ul>
<li>Typical retail selling floor environment</li>
<li>Back room sorting and stock warehousing with consideration for safety factors</li>
<li>Frequent exposure to fumes and dust and temperature fluctuations</li>
<li>Flexibility in personal work hours required</li>
<li>Frequent amount of interpersonal conflict dealing with customers, volunteers, students and / or employees</li>
<li>Work is varied with periods of repetitive tasks</li>
<li>Attention must be applied for accuracy when preparing financial documentation and staff scheduling</li>
<li>Would need to be accessible in emergency situations as they arise.</li>
<li>May be required to work overtime, as needed.</li>
<li>Working outside of business hours - usually 9AM - 9PM; time may vary for different stores based on the business needs.</li>
<li>Work outdoors – rarely.</li>
</ul>
<p><b>Education, Experience And Qualifications</b></p>
<ul>
<li>Willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.</li>
<li>Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.</li>
<li>Alternative combination of education and experience may be considered.</li>
<li>Completion of College Diploma in Business Retail Management or equivalent an asset</li>
<li>Basic accounting skills required</li>
<li>First aid training required or willing to learn in-house</li>
<li>Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications</li>
</ul>
<p><b>Experience And Knowledge</b></p>
<ul>
<li>3 years of progressive experience in retail</li>
<li>Thrift retail experience would be an asset</li>
<li>Fashion background would be an asset</li>
<li>Microsoft Office – PowerPoint, Excel, Word required</li>
<li>Experience working for Not for Profit / Charitable and retail experience is an asset</li>
<li>French language an asset</li>
</ul>

<p>Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.</p>
