Position OverviewThe Senior Property Retrocession Broker is responsible for structuring, negotiating, and placing complex retrocession programs for global reinsurance clients. This role requires deep market expertise, strong analytical capability, and well‑developed relationships across Bermuda and international reinsurance markets. Reporting to the Head of Retro in Bermuda, we are seeking an individual who collaborates effectively with others, communicates openly, and works well in a team environment.
Key Responsibilities
Client & Portfolio Management
Be able to lead the design, structuring, and placement of proportional, excess‑of‑loss, and alternative reinsurance solutions.
Analyze client exposures, risk tolerances, and capital needs to develop effective retro programs
Prepare and deliver renewal strategies, pricing analyses, and market submissions
Maintain long‑term, trust‑based relationships with senior underwriting, actuarial, and executive stakeholders
Lead negotiations with global reinsurers, managing the full placement process from initial approach to final contract binding
Represent clients' interests in complex or high‑pressure negotiation environments
Technical & Analytical Expertise
Interpret catastrophe model outputs, exposure data, and portfolio analytics to inform structuring decisions
Collaborate with analytics, actuarial, and catastrophe modelling teams to refine placements
Review wordings and contract documentation for accuracy, clarity, and compliance
Provide insight into regulatory changes, rating agency requirements, and capital considerations affecting retro markets
Business Development
Identify and pursue opportunities for new business or expanded service offerings
Support the development of innovative retro solutions
Contribute to thought leadership, market commentary, and client education materials
Internal Leadership
A team player with ability to address issues constructively
Mentor junior brokers, analysts, and support teams
Drive high‑quality client servicing standards and internal process improvements
Collaborate cross‑functionally to support group objectives and revenue targets
Skills & Qualifications
Previous experience in reinsurance, ideally with specific retrocession expertise
Strong understanding of property and property‑catastrophe reinsurance structures
Advanced negotiation skills and deep market relationships with global reinsurers
High level of comfort with exposures, catastrophe modelling concepts, and capital implications
Excellent communication, presentation, and client‑facing skills
Ability to manage complex placements under tight timelines
Experience working with collateralized markets or alternative capital providers
Degree in Business, Finance, Risk Management, or related field; professional designations (e.g., ACII) beneficial
