We are looking for a values‑based Payroll Specialist to join our Human Resources team.


The Payroll Specialist will be responsible for processing and calculating earnings and deductions for all biweekly payrolls including hourly, salaried, and contract/seasonal employees. The Payroll Specialist will maintain the Dayforce HRIS Payroll system, respond to staff inquiries regarding payroll, benefits, and pension.


Location and Working Hours: Full‑time, 3‑6 month contract, 35 hours per week with a hybrid work arrangement, including two days in the office at the Peter Gilgan Family YMCA, 410 Rebecca Street, Oakville, Ontario.

  • Annual salary $53,000 - $55,473 commensurate with experience

Responsibilities



  • Prepare and process biweekly payroll for approximately 220 full time and 400 part time employees in a non‑union environment using the Ceridian Dayforce Application.

  • Manage taxable benefits and other statutory deductions, including CPP/Wage and Tax reports/EI.

  • Prepare and submit biweekly payroll reports.

  • Prepare and submit month end reports to Manager Finance.

  • Support with reconciliation as required and support Audit process.

  • Process new hires, terminations, and job changes. Maintain payroll records, logs, and files in accordance with legislation and company policy and pay setup changes.

  • Process terminations and prepare Records of Employment through Dayforce.

  • Respond to and provide support to staff regarding payroll, pay amendments/changes government agencies.

  • Track, process, and ensure accuracy of all childcare staff wage subsidies


Requirements



  • PCP Certification, or current enrolment in a payroll accounting program.

  • Minimum of 3 years of payroll/benefits/human resources related experience.

  • Advanced knowledge of Ceridian Dayforce or other Ceridian systems.

  • Advanced knowledge of computerized systems including MS Word, Excel.

  • Have a high degree of initiative & adaptability.

  • Strong work ethic and ability to work independently.

  • Good problem solving and analytical skills.

  • Excellent organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail and the ability to multitask.

  • Experience in reconciling accounts and reports.

  • Able to deal with confidential information with a high degree of diplomacy.

  • Professional attitude and a customer service focus.

  • Strong team player, capable of performing in a fast‑paced environment.
