Mechanical Design Engineer

Job Description

We’re hiring a full-time Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the development of custom, high-speed automation systems. This role is ideal for an experienced mechanical engineer with a passion for innovation, strong leadership skills, and deep technical expertise in machine design. You’ll be responsible for managing design projects from concept through to production, working alongside a team of engineers, manufacturing and procurement. You will be driving creative solutions for complex automation challenges, taking machine design to the next level.

Responsibilities

• Lead designs for new equipment development including existing systems evaluation.


• Conceptualize, model, and detail components and assemblies using AutoCAD and 3D CAD (SolidWorks).


• Perform engineering calculations (speed, force, torque, temperature, etc.).


• Evaluate and optimize existing mechanical systems.


• Collaborate in design reviews and cross-functional project planning.


• Mentor and supervise junior designers and engineers.


• Assist with Drawing file system administration and project documentation.


• Liaison between engineering procurement and manufacturing departments.

Requirements

• 5+ years of mechanical design experience in automation or machine building.


• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or related field).


• Proficiency in AutoCAD and 3D CAD software; SolidWorks is an asset.


• Well-versed in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance (GD&T).


• Strong knowledge of pneumatics, servo motors, and machine shop practices.


• Experience with PDM document management systems.


• Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
