Our client, a respected firm in the Personal Injury sector, is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Junior Lawyer to join their team in Windsor. This is an excellent opportunity for a recent call or early-career lawyer to gain hands-on litigation experience and develop their skills in a supportive and fast-paced environment. This role will consist of assisting with the carrying and the management of files including but not limited to drafting pleadings, attending discoveries, preparing for and attending at motions, drafting mediation memoranda, pre-trial memoranda and assisting with mediation.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Oversee all aspects of tort claims
- Handle files proactively from intake to resolution
- Work cooperatively within a team structure
- Identify files ready for settlement discussions or appropriate for settlement conferences
- Review, analyze, and assess all incoming medical and other productions
- Communicate with team members and clients to ensure all documents are in order and files are up to date
- Manage ongoing file review and task assignment, with support from paralegals and legal assistants
- Assign tasks to the production department
- Prepare clients for and attend examinations for discovery, motions, mediations, etc.
- Draft settlement proposals and negotiate settlements
- Perform other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications:
- You are a lawyer with 1-2 years proficient practice experience in the area of Personal Injury
- Called to the Bar and license to practice in Ontario
- 0-1 years of handling personal injury files
- Very strong knowledge of Rules of Civil Procedures
- Experienced in handling files from beginning to end
- Experienced in settling claims
- Strong time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks
- Superior communication skills, both verbal and written
- Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment while maintaining superb organizational skills
- Confident and dependable, with strong initiative and ability to work both independently and in a team-oriented atmosphere
