<p><h3><b>District of Sooke</b></h3><h3><b>Director of Corporate Services</b></h3><p>A small town with a big heart – filled with smiling faces. Sooke embraces our natural assets including local parks, trails, waterways and oceanfronts; we honour the history of the lands of the T’Sou-ke and Sc’ianew (Cheanuh) First Nations within the Coast Salish Territory. The District of Sooke is seeking an experienced and visionary professional to join our leadership team as the Director of Corporate Services. This is an exciting permanent opportunity to contribute to the strategic direction and operational excellence of the District.</p>
<p>Reporting directly to the Chief Administrative Officer, the Director of Corporate Services is responsible for leading the Corporate Services and Bylaw teams. As the designated Corporate Officer under the Community Charter and Local Government Act, this role carries statutory responsibilities including oversight of municipal elections and compliance with the BC Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act. The Director provides strategic leadership in alignment with Council’s policies, approved budgets, and community expectations while ensuring effective operations across the Corporate Services and Bylaw divisions.</p>
<p>As a key member of the senior leadership team, the successful candidate will advise Council and other departments with timely and accurate information, support Council, Committees, and Boards, and ensure the development of administrative policies and long-range departmental plans. The Director will be instrumental in preparing operating and capital budgets, implementing strategic initiatives, and championing the District’s mission, values, and commitment to service excellence.</p>
<p><b>Qualifications</b></p>
<ul>
<li>A completed recognized degree in Public Administration, Law, or Political Science, including course work in municipal government, plus considerable related leadership experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience, ideally in a local government or comparable public sector setting.</li>
<li>Forward-thinking leadership with vision, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to develop credibility and build effective working relationships with elected officials, staff, and community partners.</li>
<li>Demonstrated political acumen, sound judgment, and the ability to analyze complex issues while providing innovative solutions in the corporate services environment.</li>
</ul>
<p><b>Responsibilities</b></p>
<ul>
<li>Lead Corporate Services and Bylaw teams and act as Corporate Officer under the Community Charter and Local Government Act, including statutory responsibilities such as oversight of municipal elections and FOIPPA compliance.</li>
<li>Provide strategic leadership aligned with Council policies and approved budgets; ensure effective operations across Corporate Services and Bylaw divisions.</li>
<li>Advise Council and departments with timely and accurate information; support Councils, Committees, and Boards; develop administrative policies and long-range plans.</li>
<li>Prepare operating and capital budgets, implement strategic initiatives, and champion the District’s mission, values, and service excellence.</li>
</ul>
<p><b>Compensation and Benefits</b></p>
<p>The 2025 rate for the Director of Corporate Services is $159,226.38 annually, plus an excellent benefit package. This position is excluded from the bargaining unit.</p>
