The Opportunity
We are seeking a Director, Childrenâs Critical Care, Medical Care and Rehabilitation Services, to lead the advancement of health and health care for children, youth and families in the Maritimes/Atlantic. Your leadership will be guided by our values and strategic plan. You will lead the program and the organization on the journey toward becoming a high reliability health care organization. You will build on the IWKâs culture of person and familyâcentered care, leadership, and interâprofessional practice excellence. The Director work with the Childrenâs Health Chief Physicians and Department Physician Leaders to develop and execute strategic priorities in care, learning and research.
Reporting to the VP, Clinical Care and Chief Nurse Executive, the Director, Childrenâs Critical Care, Medical Care and Rehabilitation Services provides an environment for participative decisionâmaking, fosters engagement and shared governance within interâprofessional teams. The Director develop accessible approaches for physician coâleadership and provides program, organizational and systemâlevel leadership. As organizational leaders, the Director work collaboratively to foster a learning and quality practice environment that is culturally and psychologically safe, and where safety, interâprofessional practice and patient and familyâcentred care are the foundations for the delivery of quality care within the health centre and across IWK communityâbased programs and services.
The Director, Childrenâs Critical Care, Medical Care and Rehabilitation Services leads health services innovation by creating conditions to provide quality, safe and costâeffective family/personâcentered care. With a focus on sustainable health care, the Director provide leadership in the evaluation and ongoing coâdesign of models of care to optimise family input, scopes of practice and care delivery. The Director contribute to continuous process improvement and LEAN initiativesicolo in health care services, including those achieved through collaboration with partners in the provincial health system. The Director address professional practice issues that relate to more than one profession, and ensure that professionals practice within professional standards, codes of ethics, and relevant legislation.
Hours of Work
Monday - Friday, 75 hours biâweekly. Participation in onâcall coverage is required.
Your Qualifications
- Bachelorâs degree in a health professional discipline required; Equivalent experience and/or alternative education may be considered
- Masters degree in Business Administration, Health discipline, Health Administration or related subject required. Enrollment in the same may be considered.
- License, or eligible for licensure, with the appropriate health association/regulatory body in Nova Scotia required
- Minimum of five (5) years clinical experience required
- Minimum of three (3) years pediatric experience required
- Minimum of three (3) years in a leadership role required
- Substantial health care leadership and management experience, committed to excellence in person and familyâcentered care within an academic, acute care/secondary care and primary health environments
- Demonstrated success in building collaborative relationships and teams and leading complex health care operations
- Expertise in developing and maintaining strategic partnerships
- Excellent financial skills and the ability to synthesize multiple data sources are essential to this role
- Demonstrated ability to coach, develop and lead high performing teams with a strong track record of continuous improvement and measurable outcomes
- Demonstrated ability to achieve results through collaboration and excellent project management skills
- Competency in other languages an asset
