<p>Job Information </p><p>Job Requisition ID: 77886<br><br>Ministry: Assisted Living and Social Services<br><br>Location: Edmonton<br><br>Full or Part-Time: Full Time<br><br>Hours of Work: 36.25 hours per week<br><br>Permanent/Temporary: Permanent<br><br>Scope: Open Competition<br><br>Closing Date: December 11, 2025<br><br>Classification: Program Services 4<br><br>Salary: $3,056.50 to $4,006.62 bi-weekly ($79,774 - $104,572/year)</p><h2>Role Responsibilities</h2><br><p>The Ministry is seeking a highly skilled Security Advisor to join the Assisted Living and Social Services (ALSS), reporting directly to the Manager, Emergency Services. This position will require a trusted subject matter expert to be responsible for leading and coordinating security and emergency management processes on behalf of the Ministry of Assisted Living and Social Services (ALSS). This position provides strategic guidance, oversight, and direction to ALSS Executives, management teams, site contacts, and related committees, ensuring alignment with the Government of Alberta's corporate security framework.</p><p>As the primary liaison with law enforcement and security partners, the Security Advisor ensures staff safety and security needs are met. This position leads the development and implementation of ALSS corporate security strategies and frameworks for managing human-induced incidents and hazards, including physical security, policy development, threat and risk assessments, planning, training and administration.</p><p>Key Responsibilities:</p><ul><li>Act as the Subject Matter Expert for security services across ALSS facilities and public-facing locations.</li><li>Develop and implement corporate security strategies, policies, and procedures.</li><li>Coordinate responses to human-induced security incidents (e.g., threats, vandalism, active shooter situations, bomb threats).</li><li>Provide expert guidance on de-escalation techniques, mental health concerns, and threat risk assessments.</li><li>Serve as the conduit to law enforcement agencies and security partners including RCMP, local authorities, and contracted security providers.</li><li>Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders such as PSIO, Cyber Security, Telecom, Intelligence Office, Sergeant-at-Arms and other Ministries.</li><li>Ensure frameworks reflect ALSS's unique needs, integrate with departmental planning and meet audit requirements.</li><li>Lead change management strategies and communications during critical or threatening situations.</li></ul><p>Please</p><h2>APS Competencies</h2><br><p>Competencies are behaviors that are essential to reach our goals in serving Albertans. We encourage you to have an in depth understanding of the competencies that are required for this opportunity and to be prepared to demonstrate them during the recruitment process.</p><p>This link will assist you with understanding competencies:</p><h2>Qualifications</h2><br><p>Minimum Requirements:</p><ul><li>University graduation in a related field (e.g., law enforcement, security operations, social work, psychology, forensic behaviour, emergency management, risk management) plus four (4) years progressively responsible related experience; or equivalent as described below.</li><li>Valid Class 5 Alberta Driver's License.</li><li>Ability to obtain and maintain Peace Officer status.</li><li>Training in violence prevention (workplace and domestic).</li><li>Training related to workplace and/or residential security.</li><li>Training related to Threat Assessment / Risk Mitigation.</li></ul><p>Required Work Experience:</p><ul><li>Security practitioner in a corporate environment.</li><li>Provider/facilitator of educational training and instruction on security.</li><li>Assessor/auditor of security requirements in a large and geographically dispersed corporate or public sector environment.</li></ul><p>Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:</p><ul><li>1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or</li><li>1 year of experience for 1 year of education.</li></ul><p>Assets:</p><ul><li>Occupational Health and Safety training related to workplace security and/or residential security.</li><li>Experience dealing with complex security issues.</li><li>Experience implementing physical and cyber security standards and practices.</li><li>Familiarity with Government Security Screening standards and practices.</li><li>Experience conducting sensitive and timely investigations (national security, major crimes, security intelligence, internal security).</li></ul><p>Minimum recruitment standards outline the minimum education and experience required for appointment to a job classification.
