About the Role


  • As a2nd Class Maintenance Relief Engineer, you will perform basic maintenance tasks asrequiredand cover rotating shifts when necessary. The position ensures the safe and efficient operation of the plant,maintainingproper functionality and performance of all equipment and machineryin accordance withhealth and safety standards. The role also requiresmaintainingcompliance with TSSA regulations and all other applicable government and company regulations.

Primary Duties
Perform duties of a 2nd Class Shift Engineer in accordance with the Operating Engineers Regulation, applicable regulations, and company procedures.
Operate, monitor, and adjust plant equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation.
Monitor overall system steam, heating, cooling, and electrical loads, making operational adjustments within assigned authority.
Operate boilers, chillers, CHP units, heat pumps, GA generator, and associated auxiliary equipment.
Perform routine plant rounds and inspections during each shift.
Record, verify, and maintain accurate operational logs, reports, and production data, including midnight readings.
Perform boiler functional tests, manual boiler and gauge blowdowns, and checks of automated controls and safety devices.
Respond to alarms, abnormal operating conditions, and emergencies in accordance with established procedures.
Troubleshoot operating issues and take corrective action within training, certification, and assigned responsibility.
Perform equipment isolation, lockout/tagout, and preparation for maintenance work as required. Carry out minor maintenance tasks and operational adjustments normally associated with plant operation.
Maintain housekeeping standards in assigned work areas.
Communicate operational information clearly during shift handovers.
Work in accordance with instructions provided by the Chief Engineer, Lead Hand, or designate.
Perform other duties consistent with the classification.


Health & Safety Responsibilities
Perform all work in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), applicable regulations, and company HSE policies.
Follow established safe work practices and procedures.
Immediately report hazards, incidents, injuries, or near misses to the Lead Hand or supervisor.
Participate in safety meetings, training, and required inspections as assigned.
Ensure permits and safety documentation applicable to assigned work are completed as required.


About Your Experience and Qualifications


Hold a 2nd Class Operating Engineer Certificate.
Hold a valid Ontario drivers license.
Have a minimum of 3 years of experience operating as Shift Engineer.
Must be able to cover rotating shifts as required and accommodate work schedule changes on short notice.
Must have a strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to safely perform maintenance tasks alone or in a team setting.
Self-motivated individual capable of working with minimum supervision.
This position will have direct contact with service contractors, suppliers, inspectors (insurance and government) and customers.
Attendance, punctuality, appearance, and positive behavior required to foster positive relations with contractors, clients, staff, etc., that is in line with a leadership position.
